V day.

well, well...so today is Valentine's Day. haha. a time of love for some, a time of despair for others, a time of "just another day" for many! I'm not sure which category I fall into...make a guess, I won't tell you! haha.

anyway, I've just finished a week of Paediatrics. mostly had tutorials but had a chance to meet children on 2 occasions so far. first was at a Plunket playgroup, where somehow I was feeling a little bit awkward. weird. the children were there with their mums, ranging from 10 week old babies to 2-3 year old kids. and the occasional older kid. we were supposed to talk to the mums about developmental milestones of their children and also their personal experiences with their pregnancies, births and up till now. but...I was just feeling, not comfortable. =S it's weird seeing how I said I love kids, but...anyway.

then I got to go to a school for the intellectually disabled, where I met 6 children with special needs. it was really an experience being able to interact with them in an environment catered specially for them. the kids in my classroom were low-functioning but quite mobile, so although they looked older, they only had mental abilities of a younger child. it really moved my heart being there, because no one chooses to have an intellectual disability, and yah, I just wanted to help them...

apart from those, we've had long hours in the seminar room listening to tutors talk about history taking, examination, developmental assessments, infant and toddler training, the acutely febrile child, ETC. so many that I can't remember them off the top of my head. had to be like a sponge, soaking up the information, with the excess leaking out from the sides. HAHAHA. though I managed to fall asleep in most of my tutes!!! unfortunately my attention span is only around 20mins heh.

so yes, that's a little bit about my life for now. thankfully I'm starting with Paeds I guess, cos this is one of the more...relaxed runs. we've got on call days (actues) which I went for one, but was rather disappointing cos for the 5hrs that we were there, my classmate and I only saw 1 patient each. =S haha. but yeah, it's more about learning how to interact with children, their needs and how they differ from adults. another 4 more weeks before it's over, but time really flies!

well, my sister left for Melbourne on Thurs too. I wonder how it's going to be like back at home, with no children around the house to make noise, my grandparents must be quite lonely...=S sigh. I better hurry up and finish my studies, head back to Singapore and spend more time with them. hope they'll be around to see me and my sister's graduations, and take an updated family photo! =)

things are otherwise alright here. getting used to taking the bus into town every morning. I'm not sure if I'll decide to cycle to school or not(lazy and it's far) but we'll see how. haha. I think if I never start I'll never do it!!! =S oh well. settled down okay into my room, enjoying it. it's nice to have flatmates I can talk to too. hee. yeah.

and I'll only talk about happy things here for now so some things shall not be said. =)

alright. I'm hopefully going to have a relaxing weekend ahead. =) enjoy your weekend too!

Happy Valentine's Day! =)
