it's an intellectual group of young adults. in a way it's good. stimulates questions and thoughtful answers. today some things were shared which were interesting.
the analogy of a potted plant, you have to water it everyday. but when you get busy, sometimes you forget, before you suddenly remember, then you water it more to make up for the lack previously. what ends up is that some of the leaves at the bottom turn brown even though the top is green and growing.
this is similar to how we ought to read the bible and pray everyday. sometimes we don't find time to do it or we are so busy we put it aside, then we remember we're supposed to be consistent in working on our relationship with God daily, and try to make it up by reading/praying lots at once. but it's about the consistency and not the quantity. because when we have this constant feast/famine lifestlye, in those times of famine we miss out on the purpose and direction for our lives that God had initially intended for us in that season.
maybe that's why when I heard that I felt as though I'm not reaching the full potential I could be because of what I'm not putting effort into. what is really important in my life? is that why I might have missed out on the fulfilment of a prophesy? or is it not too late to gain back what was lost...?
another thing I took away from tonight was that Christians cannot be demon-possessed, but can be demon-oppressed. some people get it more than others, especially if you have a higher calling. for example, pastors face stronger demons because their level of influence is so much more. that's why it's important to pray for your spiritual leaders and those in authority.
we can't be possessed by demons because we've asked the Holy Spirit into our lives, so our spirit man has the Holy Spirit within, but we face the battle with our body and souls which are weak and can be oppressed by the demons. yet as we grow in our walk with God, the Holy Spirit rules over more of our lives and has more control, such that we do not give in easily to the temptations of the flesh.
and in all things, guard your hearts well...
